Topic 1 of 3 in HTML — Build Your First Web Page — 4 lessons.

What is HTML?

HTML describes the structure of a web page using elements written as tags like <h1>…</h1>. The browser reads the tags and renders the page. Click ▶ Run to see the preview, then edit the code — it updates live.

Headings & Paragraphs

Use <h1>–<h6> for headings (largest to smallest) and <p> for paragraphs. Use one <h1> per page, then <h2>/<h3> for sections.

The Page Skeleton

Every example so far has sat inside the same few lines of boilerplate. They are not decoration: each line tells the browser something important, and almost every real web page starts with them.

Bold, Emphasis & Line Breaks

Browsers collapse whitespace: pressing Enter five times or typing ten spaces in your code still shows a single space on the page. To control how text looks and where it breaks, you use tags instead.
